What is a Private IP Address?
As we all know, IP addresses basically refer to the addresses that we know ourselves, albeit they exist on the World Wide Web or on the virtual world. IP addresses are basically just like those that pertain not just to a specific site but to a specific network of sites.
There are two kinds of IP addresses. There are both public IP addresses, and there are also private IP addresses. The definition of these are fairly simple – they are basically just IP addresses referring to the kind of access we can have on them. Public IP addresses are those that can be addressed by any body just by typing on the IP address on to their address bars and, prior to that, the hyper text protocol. A perfect example of a public IP address is 192.168.1.1. 192.168.1.1 is actually the IP address of one of the most popular corded and wireless brand of broad band Internet routers around the world. So, where would 192.168.1.1 lead us? It is basicaly to the web site of Link Sys web routers.
So if public IP addresses are those that every one can access, then that only means that private IP addresses are those that can only be accessed by a few people, perhaps by many people, too, but their are certain permission requirements and restrictions that need to be fulfilled first before actually getting the rights to access the network of sites. So, what permissions need to be fulfilled in order to gain access to a site that belongs to a network with a private IP address? Well, sometimes, the users will be prompted to type in a certain pass word. At times, the user just will not be allowed to access the sites in it until he gets within the network of preference for that particular network. One example, we believe, is that situation when, during those times when we access certain You Tube videos, there would be times when we just would not be able to get allowed to access, mainly because that particular video is not available in the user’s country. This is basically what happens when one tries to access a particular web site that belongs to a private IP address.
Purposes of the Private IP Range of Networks
IP addresses ranging from 10.0.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 are basically those IP addresses that are available for those who would want to avail of an IP address that is private. But the question is, what could be the reasons why they are fast in demand? Well basically, it is all just about security, making sure they subsist through the deals of fraud, internet theft, and all that paranoia about Internet stuff. Private IP addresses are also helpful when running company data bases that we would want to keep secret or just get to share with our company employees and trusted personnel.
