Aside from being the most common means of cooking yams, baking yams also bring out the sweetness in these tubers, which is largely what differentiates them from potatoes and many other root crops. Typically, yams are baked whole, with the skin on, or with the skin peeled out and then, the entire tuber coated with butter, bacon, or some other savory sauce to bring out its subtle yet smashing taste. Yams can also be sliced into chips or strips just like fries, candied, and then fried or baked. The result is a great dish featuring succulent flavor and a really appetizing smell.
